Masada
Today we traveled along the Jordan river valley through the West Bank to Masada, the famous mountaintop fortress.
This was one of my favorite places we visited. The scenery was breathtaking and the story of Masada was even more interesting. As the Romans tried to take over Masada and the Jews that inhabited it, the Jews chose not to be enslaved by the Romans and to kill their families and themselves before being captured. I remember they also left food and weapons to show the Romans that they could have fought if they wanted to, but they chose not to.
